ABSTRACT: The recent migration crisis in the Canary Islands has demonstrated Spain’s
inability to cope alone with the mass influx of immigrants to its external border. This
situation entails the need to determine some EU´s solidarity mechanisms that could have
been applied to the Canarian case.

RESUMEN: La reciente crisis migratoria en las islas Canarias ha demostrado la
incapacidad de España para hacer frente por sí sola a la llegada masiva de inmigrantes
a su frontera exterior. Ello conlleva la necesidad de determinar algunos mecanismos de
solidaridad en el contexto de la UE que pudieran haber sido aplicados al caso canario.
