Andrew P. Loewinger is a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Nixon
Peabody LLP (a national law firm of more than 700 attorneys with offices through-
out the United States, China, and England). He is an internationally recognized
franchise lawyer and has represented numerous U.S. and non-U.S. companies
in outbound transactions to over 85 countries and in many inbound transactions
into the United States. Andrew is a corporate and transactional lawyer whose
practice involves representation of companies on a variety of matters relating to
franchising and distribution law matters, including international franchising; struc-
turing and development of franchise programs; franchise sales law compliance;
franchise relationship matters; mergers and acquisitions; joint ventures; intellec-
tual property licensing and protection; and counseling on franchise disputes.
Andrew is a member of the Governing Committee of the American Bar
Association’s Forum on Franchising and previously served as the first director
of the Forum’s International Division. He served as co-chair of the Forum on
Franchising’s Annual Forum. He served as chair of the International Franchis-
ing Committee of the International Bar Association, and is currently co-chair of
the International Franchising Committee. Andrew has been recognized as one
of the top franchise lawyers in the United States and internationally in Cham-
bers Global, Chambers USA, Who’s Who Legal, The International Who’s Who of
Business Franchise Lawyers and was recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in
America in franchise law and as a “legal eagle” in The Franchise Times.
Andrew has written extensively on international and U.S. franchise law mat-
ters in the Franchise Law Journal and The Franchise Lawyer (published by the
ABA Forum on Franchising) and other publications and is a frequent speaker at
franchise programs held by the American Bar Association’s Forum on Franchis-
ing, the International Bar Association, the International Franchise Association
legal symposium, and other events. He has also served as articles and notes
editor to the Franchise Law Journal.
Andrew received his B.A. from Colorado College (magna cum laude; Phi
Beta Kappa), a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia Univer-
sity, and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was an
editor on The American Criminal Law Review.
Michael K. Lindsey is counsel in the Los Angeles office of Steinbrecher
& Span LLP, a boutique law firm with offices in Los Angeles, Houston, and
Washington, D.C. He was previously a partner for more than 30 years in the
international law firm Paul Hastings LLP. He is a corporate and transactional
lawyer, with a practice concentration in the areas of franchise, distribution
and intellectual property law. Mike’s practice includes franchise disclosure,
registration, and relationship matters; advice concerning the sale, distribution,
