LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Times of transition
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose
Thunderbird School of Global Management is in the throes of change
with all its chaos, excitement, and re-centering. We have moved from
our iconic campusreplete with remnants and reminders ofour roots as
a former airfield in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale, Arizona. We are
temporarily locatedin the Arizona Center in the center of urban Phoe-
nix, at least until construction on our new building is completed. We
welcomed a new leader, Sanjeev Khagram, who promises to take us
into Thunderbirdsfuture. We are excited about the possibilities. Thun-
derbirds corefaculty, students, and perhaps most important alumni
remain on the edge of our seats in anticipation of great change. Thun-
derbirds are at theirbest in times of transition, chaos, and change.
Thunderbird International Business Review is undergoing major,
although unrelated, change as well. Our publisher, Wiley, has transi-
tioned to a new print format for articles and the current issue is the
beginning of this process. We will continue to publish six issues a year.
These will, however contain more articles in each issue. Once
accepted, all articles will be immediately electronically published as
early viewarticles. Each future issue will increase our inclusion of
View from Practicearticles and continue to highlight Emerging Mar-
ketpublications. While article format may change and issue focus
change slightly, Thunderbird International Business Review will continue
its 70-plus-year legacy of knowledge creation and thought leadership
focusing on international business.
This transition issue is very large. It contains four View from
Practicearticles ranging from a study of Electrolux, and another of
Nordic bank culture, to two articles focusing on Latin American busi-
ness dynamics. We include seven Emerging Market Perspectives:
Africaarticles that mostly emphasize sub-Saharan Africa. We also
have three Emerging Market Perspectives: Chinaarticles that
explore values, governance and outward investment. The issue con-
cludes with six Dimensions of International Businessarticles that
include inpatriate management, social identity and language, intrinsic
motivation, acquisitions and performance, status and performance,
and merger and acquisition motives.
We hope you enjoy the new format and appreciate the ability to
access articles that are hot off the pressas we change to our new
format. We trust that even more focus on practice and more emphasis
on emerging markets will bring the world of international business to
our readers. For Thunderbirds, never has the phrase, plus ça change,
plus c'est la même chosebeen more appropriate.
