1|INTRODUCTION
We are truly excited and humbled by the challenge that lies ahead. We
assume the role of EditorsinChief (EICs) of Corporate Governance: An
International Review (CGIR) with a great sense of responsibility.
Undoubtedly, after a publicationhistory of more than a quarter of a cen-
tury, CGIR is now considered the premier academic outlet for global,
interdisciplinary, and cuttingedge corporate governance research. As
stewards of the journal, we will strive to maintain its reputation for pub-
lishing interesting, relevant, and rigorous research and to enhance its
significance to the global corporate governance community.
This transition finds the journal in rude health. Under the expert
stewardship of the departing EICs, Praveen Kumar and Alessandro
Zattoni, the journal has preserved the high number of original manu-
script submissions and its impact factor has reached new heights.
Importantly, these successes were achieved with absolute integrity
and respect for the reviewing process. We are determined to preserve
this ethos during our tenure and repay the trust shown to the journal
by the corporate governance community by publishing exciting and
innovative academic work.
We take this opportunity to communicate our priorities as well as
important information about the journal's processes.
2|AIMS AND SCOPE
We strongly feel that the reported aims and scope on the journal's
website still reflect the core of what the journal should try to achieve.
In particular:
a. The focus on insightful and robust work examining corporate gov-
ernance matters at a global level will remain unabated. We encour-
age both comparative and single jurisdiction studies as long as they
clearly provide new insights and advance our knowledge in a mean-
ingful way. We have no preferences over particular jurisdictions;
CGIR under our stewardship will stay true to its goal to explain
and analyse corporate governance at the global level.
b. We are keen to receive more studies that centre on a broad
definition of corporate governance that takes into account the
needs and obligations of major stakeholders within and outside
an organisation. We feel that there is still a lot to learn in this
research area and there is a clear need for both significant
theoretical advances and groundbreaking empirical evidence.
c. CGIR will continue to be a truly interdisciplinary journal that wishes
to remain relevant to scholars coming from a wide range of disci-
plines such as accounting, economics, finance, law, management,
sociology, and political science. We will never limit our perspective
to any particular theory or methodological paradigm.
d. We wish to publish work that has significant implications to cor-
porate governance practitioners and can influence policy making.
We are committed to reinforcing the journal's reported aim of
becoming the knowledge centre for consultants, practitioners,
and public policy makers engaged with corporate governance
throughout the world.
3|EDITORS AND EDITORIAL BOARD
CGIR is lucky to receive so much support from top corporate gover-
nance scholars from around the world. Without the expert advice
and work ethic of its editors and editorial board members, it couldn't
remain effective in pursuing its mission and wouldn't be able to
enhance further its reputation as the premier outlet for corporate gov-
ernance research. The CGIR family is large, but we plan to grow it fur-
ther. We are very excited with the new colleagues who have just
joined the team and plan on bringing in more top scholars who are
keen to contribute to the journal. We estimate that once we have
about 20 Editors and 80 Editorial Board members, workloads will be
more manageable and more fairly distributed.
After holding discussions with the publisher, we decided to
change the title of the journal's Associate Editorsto Editors,effec-
tive immediately. Even though final decisions over manuscripts rest
with the EICs, we believe it is important to acknowledge the expert
handling of the review process by our Editors and their significance
in this process. We believe that the title change properly reflects this.
Furthermore, we have decided to rename the Editorial Review Board
to Editorial Board. We don't feel that the great pool of talent and
expert knowledge in this board should be only available to us for
reviewing purposes. We strongly encourage the top scholars who
are members of this board to share with us their suggestions on oper-
ational and strategic matters relating to the journal.
4|REVIEW PROCESS
We consider the review of manuscripts to be the cornerstone of
everything we do at CGIR and the process that guarantees the
