El Consejo de Administración de la OIT elige nuevo Presidente

EL Consejo de Administración de la Oficina Internacional del Trabajo (OIT) eligió a Greg Vines, ministro (Trabajo) de la Misión Permanente de Australia ante las Naciones Unidas en Ginebra, como Presidente para el período 2011-2012. La 311ª Reunión del Consejo de Administración analizó además otras cuestiones, incluido el informe del Comité de Libertad Sindical de la OIT.
Greg Vines sustituye a S.E. Jerry M. Matjila, Embajador de la República de Sudáfrica y Representante Permanente ante las Naciones Unidas en Ginebra, quien ejerció como Presidente del Consejo de Administración desde marzo 2011.
Greg Vines lleva más de 30 años de actividad en el área de las relaciones laborales, y ahora ejerce como Consejero Especial para asuntos de Trabajo del Gobierno de Australia. Antes de su designación para este cargo en Ginebra, desempeñó varios altos cargos ejecutivos para el Gobierno Federal y Estatal de Australia. De 2008 a 2009 fue asesor ejecutivo del Primer Ministro de Timor Leste.
Daniel Funes de Rioja, presidente del Departamento de Política Social de la Unión Industrial Argentina y presidente del Grupo de los Empleadores de la Organización de Estados Americanos de 1995 a 1998, fue reelegido vicepresidente empleador. Luc Cortebeeck, Presidente de la Confederación de los Sindicatos Cristianos de Bélgica, fue elegido Vicepresidente en representación de los trabajadores. Los dos Vicepresidentes también actuarán como portavoces de sus respectivos grupos.
Los tres ejercerán como representantes del Consejo de Administración durante el período de sesiones 2011- 2012. El Consejo de Administración es el órgano ejecutivo de la OIT y se reúne tres veces al año en Ginebra. Toma decisiones sobre la política de la OIT y determina el programa y presupuesto de la Organización, que se compone de 183 Estados miembros.
La Conferencia Internacional del Trabajo también eligió los nuevos miembros del Consejo de Administración el 6 de junio.
