Abstract
The study aimed to identify the degree of exposure to traumatic experiences and their most
common types among Palestinian children with destroyed homes in the border areas of the
Khan Younis Governorate, and to identify the extent of conduct disorder among them as well
as the differences in the degree of traumatic experiences and conduct disorder that can be at-
tributed to gender. The traumatic experiences scale was administered to a random sample of
200 boys and girls, while the conduct disorder scale was applied to a random sample of 200
parents. The results showed that the severe degree of exposure to the traumatic experiences
was 26.5%, while the moderate degree was 71%, and the low degree was 2.5%. The most
common traumatic experiences among children were hearing jet fighters with a mean of
0.755, followed by complete house destruction, partial destruction with a mean of 7.25, and
fleeing homes and under bombardment which amounted to a mean of 0.70. The prevalence
of conduct disorder as perceived by parents was 5.5%. The results also showed differences
in the degree of exposure to traumatic experiences attributable to gender in favor of males,
even though there were no gender differences in the prevalence of conduct disorder.
