Work on UN disarmament studies under way.


Four disarmament studies are under preparation by the Department for Disarmament Affairs, as requested by the forty-third General Assembly.

A 20-member study group on the role of the UN in the verification field, held its first session (New York, 13-17 February), agreeing on the general structure for the study. Its next session will be from 24 july to 4 August.

Another study group, which is to carry out a comprehensive update of the 1980 study on nuclear weapons, held its first session in New York from 6 to 10 March. An outline and a general structure for the updated study were agreed upon. The group will next meet in Geneva from 27 November to 8 December.
