Data-driven optimization problems have been recognized in recent years by researchers far beyond
the optimization community to be a powerfultool to model many important applications. This trend
can be credited to some extent to the exciting developments in emerging fields such as compressed
sensing and machine learning, among others. However, the classical optimization methods for data
processing have become inadequate in these recent applications, due to the presence of complex,
large-scale,and rapidly changing data. Motivated bythis, the Workshop on Data-driven Optimization
Methods and Applications was held in Changchun, China, from July 6 to 7, 2019.
In order to promote the development of data-driven optimization, the International Transactions
in Operational Research decided to publish a special issue devoted to this subject. Topics of interest
include, but are not limited to, data-driven optimization models, theory, methods and practical
applications. Other contributions and relevant articles are also warmly welcome. Although the
participants of the Workshopon Data-driven Optimization Methods and Applications are particularly
encouraged to contribute to this special issue, it is open for submissions from the entire community.
The deadline for submission is December 31, 2019.
Each paper will be peer-reviewedaccording to the editorial policy of the International Transactions
in Operational Research(ITOR), published by the International Federation of OperationalResearch
Societies (IFORS). Papers should be original, unpublished, and not currently under consideration
for publicationelsewhere. Contributions should be preparedaccording to the instructions to authors
that can be found on the journal homepage. Authors should upload their contributions using the
submission site http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/itor, indicatingin their cover letter that the paper
is intended for this special issue. Other inquiries should be sent directly to any of the Guest Editors
in charge of this issue: Wei Bian (bianweilvse520@163.com), Yu-Hong Dai (dyh@lsec.cc.ac.cn),
Chao Ding (dingchao@amss.ac.cn) and Xiao Wang (wangxiao@ucas.ac.cn).
