Argentina, United Kingdom decide to re-establish diplomatic relations.

Argentina and the United Kingdom have reported further progress in their dialogue aimed at resolving problems pending between them, including the question of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas).

The two Governments, at a meeting in Madrid on 14 and 15 February, decided to re-establish diplomatic relations and agreed on a set of confidence-building measures. The two also declared that they wished "to develop further friendship and co-operation between their two peoples" and reaffirmed their commitment to the formula on sovereignty over the Falkland Islands (Malvinas), South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands and surrounding maritime areas, as agreed upon on 19 October 1989 in Madrid.

At that time, the two stated that all hostilities between them had ceased and neither would pursue claims for loss or damage against the other. They agreed to re-establish consular relations at the level of Consul General, to normalize their commercial and financial relations, and to resume air and maritime communications between the two countries.
