JIPITEC, the ”Journal of Intellectual Property, Information Technology and Electronic Commerce Law” is a new
online-journal for current issues of intellectual property, information technology and E-commerce law. The main
focus of JIPITEC is on European law - both on the Union and on the member states level. Most articles are in
English language, but the journal is also open for articles in other European langua ges, especially German and
French.
JIPITEC is an Open Access Journal. Ar ticles are available according to the terms and conditions of the Digital
Peer Publishing Licenses (http://www.dipp.nrw.de/lizenzen/). In addition, authors may allow to use their articles
under a Creative Commons (http://creativecommons.org/about/licenses/) or other license.
JIPITEC implements the concept of an open access journal, already successfully used in natural sciences, also for
a legal sub-discipline. The aim is to create an easily accessible platform for contributions on mainly European and
national law regulating the information society, which in view of their breadth and scientific depth do not find
space in traditional and mostly commercially oriented analog law journals. In addit ion, JIPTEC makes use of the
easy distribution via the Internet. T hus, JIPITC conforms to the ”Berlin Declar ation on Open Access to Knowledge
in the Sciences and Humanities” (http://oa.mpg.de/openaccess-berlin/berlindeclaration.html)
JIPITEC aims at developing an information platform that allows authors and users to work cl oser together than
this is the case in classical law reviews. The journal will constantly revise its social media functions for this
purpose. However, elements from classical law reviews, especially book reviews, bundling of articles in 2- 4 issues
per year etc. will be retained.
In order to guarantee the level of scientific quality, JIPITEC is a peer-reviewed journal.
JIPITEC is financially supported by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (htt p://www.dfg.de/en/index.jsp).
The editors very much hope that the concept underlying JIPITEC will be successfully used by authors and readers
alike.
