Significant progress has been achieved in the peace process in Angola, though much remains to be done, according to lbrahim Gambari, the top United Nations envoy to the country. He said that in its first four months of operation, the UN Mission in Angola (UNMA) had "successfully initiated activity in nearly all the areas mandated to it". The Mission's main areas of focus are raising awareness of the humanitarian situation and the plight of more than 4 million internally displaced people, refugees, ex-combatants and their dependents, as well as organizing an international donors' conference for reconstruction.
