As President of the Australian Branch of the International Law Association it gives me great pleasure to write this foreword to the 26th Volume of the Australian International Law Journal. The promotion of scholarship and research, and the dissemination of academic work to the community are central to the goals of the ILA.

The current Volume of the Journal reflects in many ways the diversity and scope of international law. The a nalyses e ncompass c ore a reas o f international law and perennial questions concerning sovereignty and justice, as well as cutting-edge topics, including those that sit at the interface of different sub-disciplines of international law and those reflecting current State practice.
