Canada to participate in EU crisis management operations.

The Council of the European Union (EU) has approved the Agreement between the European Union and Canada establishing a framework for the participation of Canada in the European Union crisis management operations under the European Security and Defense Policy (ESDP). The Agreement was signed in Brussels on November 24, 2005, and provides, for example, that Canada may associate itself with the Joint Action that the EU takes in a crisis situation; that Canada shall contribute to the financing of the EU civilian crisis management operation; and that Canadian personnel shall act according to the necessities of the EU operation. - The EU is developing a full range of conflict prevention and crisis management abilities, as defined in the...
