IMF Managing Director Horst Köhler on May 29 proposed the appointment of Mexico's Deputy Secretary of Finance, Agustín Carstens, to succeed Eduardo Aninat as Deputy Managing Director of the IMF. Eduardo Aninat will be leaving the IMF this month.

"I and my management colleagues-Anne Krueger and Shigemitsu Sugisaki-look forward to Agustín Carstens joining the management team at the IMF," Köhler said. "With his extensive experience as a central banker and at Mexico's Ministry of Finance, as well as in the international policymaking arena, Agustín will build upon the distinguished contribution of his predecessor, Eduardo Aninat."
