Tajikistan rations electricity since Feb 1

Restrictions on the supply of electricity have been introduced in Tajikistan since February 1. These limits will be set, according to the national energy holding "Barki Tojik", to prevent a shortage of electricity and its negative consequences for the socio-economic sphere of the country, Asia Plus reported on January 31.

The increase in demand for electricity in the socio-economic sphere of the country caused problems in the operation of the energy system due to the air temperature dropping significantly below the norm in January of this year, the holding noted.

Given the gradual increase in domestic demand for electricity, it has been observed that electricity generation in the period ending January 2023 increased by 300 million kWh compared to the same period last year, which is 14% more.

This growing demand for electricity caused an increase in the load on electrical networks and transformers, and negatively affected the water and energy resources of reservoirs, the holding explained.

Barki Tojik indicates that the flow of the Vakhsh River in summer is on average 2,000-2,200 cubic meters per second, and it is 150-200 cubic meters per second in winter.
