Tajikistan Owes $1.3 Billion to China's Eximbank

AKIPRESS.COM - Tajikistan owes $1.3 billion to China's EximBank, which is 40% of the total foreign debt of Tajikistan ($2.9 billion as of January 2019), Avesta reported citing the Finance Ministry data.

The first loan Tajikistan obtained from China was in 2007 in the amount of $216 million. China accounted for 35% of the total foreign debt of Tajikistan by the second quarter of the last year.

Debt amounting to $500 million came from sale of public securities in international markets, the statement said. The foreign debt-to-GDP ratio stands at 38.9% as of January 2019. $224 million were spent on the debt servicing.
