The S ecurity Counci l,
Reaf firm ing it s r esolutio ns 1261 (199 9) of 25 August 199 9, 1314 (200 0) of
11 August 20 00, 1379 (20 01) or 20 Nove mber 2001, 1 460 (2003) o f 3 0 January
2003 , 153 9 (20 04) o f 22 April 2004, 1612 (2005 ) of 26 July 2005, 1882 (2009) of
4 August 2009, 199 8 (2 011) of 1 2 Ju ly 2 011, 2 068 (2012) of 19 Septemb er 2 012,
2143 (20 14) of 7 Ma rch 2014, and all relev ant Stateme nts o f it s Pr esident, wh ich
cont ribute to a comp rehensi ve fr amework for addre ssing the protecti on o f chil dren
affec ted by a rmed co nflict,
Reit erati ng its prima ry res ponsibil ity fo r the maint enance of interna tional
peac e and s ecurity and, in t his con nection, its co mmitmen t to ad dress th e
wide spread i mpact o f armed conflic t on chi ldren,
Ackn owle dgin g that its resolu tions, t heir im plement ation a nd the State ments of
its Presid ent on childr en and armed confli ct as well a s the c onclusio ns of the
Secu rity Counci l Worki ng Group on Childr en and Ar med Confli ct h ave generat ed
prog ress in p reventi ng a nd r espondi ng to vio lations and abu ses committ ed a gainst
child ren, i n parti cular i n the demo bilizati on, reh abilitat ion and reint egration of
thou sands of chil dren, the si gning of act ion pla ns bet ween parties to ar med co nflict
and the delistin g of partie s to confli ct fro m the Annexe s to the Secreta ry-Gen eral’s
annua l repor t,

in som e situatio ns of conce rn, where p arties to c onflict co ntinue to v iolate wi th
impu nity the relevan t provi sions o f applic able int ernation al law relating to the rights
and protecti on of ch ildren i n armed conflic t,
Reca llin g t hat all parti es to a rmed c onflict must compl y stric tly wit h the
obli gations applica ble to them under internat ional l aw for the p rotecti on of childre n
in armed conflic t, incl uding those contain ed in the C onven tion o n the Rights of the
Chil d and it s Optio nal Pro tocol on the in volveme nt of C hildren in arme d confl ict, as
well as the Geneva Conve ntions of 1 2th Au gust 1949 and th e Addi tional Protoc ols
of 19 77,
