GRANTING THE COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA THE STATUS OF PERMANENT OBSERVER TO THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES

(Adopted by the Permanent Council at its virtual regular meeting held on November 3, 2021)

THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,

HAVING SEEN:

The request from the Government of Australia to be granted the status of permanent observer to the Organization of American States (CP/doc.5717/21 and CP/doc.5717/21 add. 1);

The presentation by the OAS General Secretariat’s Department of External and Institutional Relations to the Committee on Juridical and Political Affairs (CAJP) on October 21, 2021, regarding the application by Australia, as well as that Committee’s decision to recommend that the Permanent Council issue the relevant resolution to grant Australia permanent observer status, and

The corresponding report by the Chair of the CAJP (CP/CAJP -3623/21);

CONSIDERING:

That in resolution AG/RES. 50 (I-O/71) on “Permanent Observers to the Organization of American States,” the General Assembly established the status of permanent observer to the Organization of American States and entrusted the Permanent Council with the task of determining the criteria and timeliness to give effect to and implement that...
