The General Assembly,
Recall ing its resoluti ons 76 /222 of 17 December 2021 on agricult ure
devel opment, food security and nutritio n, 76/ 166 of 16 December 20 21 o n the right
to foo d, 70/ 259 of 1 April 2016, e ntitled “Uni ted Nati ons Decad e o f Action o n
Nutritio n (20 16–202 5)”, 72/239 of 2 0 December 201 7, enti tled “ United Nati ons
Decade o f Famil y Farming (2019 –2028)”, and 76/ 124 of 1 0 Decembe r 202 1 on the
strength ening of th e coordin ation of emerge ncy humanita rian a ssistance of t he Unite d
Nations, Commission on Populat ion and Dev elopment resolu tion 20 21/1 of 23 Apr il
2021 on populatio n, fo od secu rity, nu trition a nd sust ainable devel opment

Expressing deep conc ern over the current st ate of global food insecu rity, wit h
811 million peopl e affected by hunger in 2 020, e xacerbating human itarian nee ds a nd
increasin g the risk o f famine around th e world, especi ally in devel oping co untrie s,
inclu ding African countrie s, least dev eloped co untries, land locked dev elopin g
count ries, small island devel oping States and middl e-income c ountries,
Notin g the unpreceden ted surge in internatio nal food commo dity price s whi ch,
accordi ng to the Food Price Ind ex of the Foo d and Ag ricult ure Organ ization of the
United Nations, reached th eir hig hest peak in March 2 022 sinc e its incep tion in 1990 ,
in partic ular the rise in g lobal pric es of veget able o il and grain, inclu ding whea t,
further affecti ng peop le in v ulnerable si tuations,
Notin g also the rise in fertilizer prices and the shortag es caused by su pply chain
disrupt ions, affecting crop yields and th reateni ng future agricult ural product ivity and
produc tion, especi ally of wh eat, maize, millet, rice, sunflo wer o il and essential foo d,
