Reaf firm ing the impo rtance of its resoluti on 44/25 of 20 N ovember 198 9, b y

whic h it adopte d the Conv ention on t he Ri ghts of the Chil d,

stand ard in the prom otion and prot ection o f the ri ghts of the chil d,

Reaf firming a lso that States pa rties to th e Conven tion on th e Rights o f the Chil d

shall und ertake all appr opriate mea sures for the imple mentatio n of the righ ts

reco gnized therein , whil e bear ing in mind the import ance o f the Option al Pr otocols

to th e Conven tion

and calli ng for th eir univ ersal rat ificatio n and eff ective

impl ementati on, as w ell as t hat of o ther hu man righ ts instr uments,

Reaf firming further that t he gene ral prin ciples of the Convent ion on the R ights

of the Ch ild, inclu ding the be st interest s of the child , non-di scrimin ation, par ticipati on

and sur vival and deve lopment, pro vide the frame work for actio ns c oncernin g

child ren,
