Reaffirming that t he 1951 Co nvention relat ing to th e Status of Refugee s,

toget her w ith t he 1 967 Pr otocol there to,

as compl ement ed b y the Organizat ion o f

Africa n Unity Conve ntion of 1969 , remai ns th e founda tion of the inter natio nal

refug ee pr otection regime i n Afr ica,

Welcoming the entry into force on 6 December 2 012 and t he ongoing proc ess of

ratif ication of the African Union Co nvent ion for the Protect ion and Assistan ce of

Inter nally Disp laced Pers ons in Africa ,

whic h marks a signi ficant ste p towards

streng thening the national and regional normat ive fr ameworks for t he prot ection of

and a ssistance to inter nally disp laced pe rsons,

Recalling the d ecision o f the Africa n Union t o declare 2019 as th e African Year

of Ref ugees, Ret urnees and Internall y Displaced Persons: Towar ds Dura ble Soluti ons
