The Ge neral As sembly,

Having consi dered c hapter IV of the report of the Inter national Law

Commi ssion on the work of its sevent y-second se ssion,

which contai ns t he draft

pream ble and g uidelines on the p rotection of the atmosp here,

Taking n ote of the r ecommend ation of the Intern ational Law C ommiss ion

conta ined in p aragraph 37 of its report,

Empha sizin g the continuin g importanc e of the cod ification and progres sive

devel opment o f intern ational l aw, as referr ed to in Arti cle 13, paragraph 1 (a), of the

Chart er of the United Na tions,

Noting t hat the subject of p rotection of the atmosph ere is of maj or impor tance

in in ternation al relati ons,

1. Welcomes the conc lusion of the wor k of the Interna tional Law Com mission

on the protectio n of the atmo sphere and i ts adoptio n of th e draft pre amble and

guide lines on the prote ction of the atmo sphere and com menta ries ther eto;

2. Expres ses i ts appreciatio n t o t he I nternatio nal L aw Commi ssion for its

conti nuing contr ibution to th e cod ifica tion and progr essive deve lopment of

international law;

3. Takes note of the vie ws and commen ts expre ssed in the deb ates of the Sixth

Commi ttee o n the subject , incl uding those m ade at the seventy -sixth session of t he
