Convince d that the continuin g existenc e of nuclear w eapons pos es a threat t o

humanity and all life on Ear th, and recognizing tha t the only defe nce against a nuclear

catastro phe is the total elimi nation of nuclear weapons and the certa inty that they will

never be produced again ,

Reaffirm ing the commitm ent of t he internat ional commu nity to the realiza tion

of t he goal of a n uclear-weapon- free world through the total eliminati on of n uclear

weapons,

Mindful of the solemn ob ligations of Sta tes parties, in particular the obligations

undertak en in article VI of the Treaty on the Non-Pro liferation of N uclear Weapons,
