it adop ted a compre hensive, fa r-reach ing and peop le-cent red set of univ ersal and

Serio usly concer ned about the rate of specie s ex tinction s, a s ind icated in the
findi ngs of the Intergov ernment al Sci ence-P olicy Platform on Biodiver sity a nd
Ecos ystem Ser vices, an d stress ing the urg ent need t o addres s the unpr ecedente d
glob al de cline in b iodiver sity, in cluding by preve nting the extincti on of thr eatened
spec ies, to i mprove a nd susta in their conserva tion sta tus and t o restor e and saf eguard
ecosyst ems t hat p rovide essent ial fu nctions and servic es, i ncluding serv ices r elated
to wa ter, heal th, live lihoods and wel l-bein g,
