The General Assembly ,

Reaf firm ing its resolut ion 70/1 of 25 Septe mber 2015, entitle d “Tra nsformin g

our worl d: t he 2 030 A genda for Susta inable Deve lopment ”, i n wh ich it adopted a

comp rehensiv e, fa r-reachi ng and peopl e-centr ed set of universa l and transf ormati ve

Sust ainable D evelopm ent Goa ls and ta rgets, its commitm ent to wo rking ti relessly for

the full impleme ntation of th e Agend a by 2030, ensurin g that no one is left behind ,

its reco gnition tha t er adicati ng p overty in all its for ms and dimens ions, includ ing

extr eme p overty, is t he gr eatest globa l cha llenge and an indispe nsable requir ement

for sustai nable develop ment, its commitm ent to achi eving sustain able develop ment

in its three dime nsions – econo mic, social and envi ronment al – in a balanc ed a nd

integ rated mann er, an d to bui lding upon the achi evement s of the Mi llennium

Deve lopment Goals a nd seek ing to a ddress t heir unf inished busines s,

Reco gnizing the im portant con tributio n th at the promoti on o f e ye health can

make to accele rating ac tion towa rds the a chievem ent of th e Sustain able Dev elopmen t

Goal s,

Reco gnizing al so that the c ontribut ions of pers ons with di sabilitie s are import ant

to th e full and effe ctive im plement ation o f the 20 30 Agend a, and noting t he need for

Memb er States, the Un ited Natio ns system and o ther stake holders to fur ther

stren gthen the n ormative f ramewor k on disabi lity, includ ing the righ ts of perso ns with

disab ilities, in line with th e pledge of le aving no on e behind, a nd to consid er disabi lity

as a global issue, c utting a cross th e pillar s of th e United Nation s,
