The General Assembly ,

Reaf firm ing the purpo ses a nd p rinciple s of the Chart er of the Unit ed Na tions

and t he Unive rsal Dec laration of Huma n Rights ,

for t he promo tion and protect ion of

all h uman ri ghts and fundam ental fr eedoms f or all p ersons,

Reaf firming also th at th e Un iversal Dec laration of Hum an R ights establ ishes

that all huma n beings are born free an d equal i n dignit y and rig hts, and that eve ryone

is entitled to al l the rights and fr eedoms set fo rth the rein, w ithout distinc tion of any

kind, such as race, co lour, sex , langua ge, reli gion, p olitical or othe r opinio n, nation al

or so cial ori gin, pro perty, bi rth or ot her stat us,

Reca llin g its resolu tion 52/111 of 12 Decembe r 19 97, in w hich it decided to

conv ene th e World Confe rence against Raci sm, Ra cial Discrim ination, Xeno phobia

and Rela ted I ntolera nce, and noting its previ ous resoluti ons on t he co mprehen sive

follo w-up to the World Confere nce a nd the effec tive impleme ntation of the Du rban

Decl aration and Prog ramme of Action,

Reaf firm ing i ts resolu tions 64/ 169 of 18 D ecember 2009, in w hich it pro claimed

the year 2011 the Inter national Year for People of Africa n De scent, and 68/2 37 of

23 Dece mber 2013, in which it procl aimed the Inter national Dec ade for People of

Afric an Desc ent (201 5–2024) , with th e theme “ People o f Afric an d escent:

reco gnition, justice and de velopme nt”,
