1949 and rela ting t o the protect ion of victims of armed conflicts

The General Assembly ,

Reca llin g its biennial resoluti ons on the status of the Proto cols Addit ional to t he

Gene va Conve ntions of 1 949 and re lating to th e protect ion of vic tims of arm ed

conf licts, in cluding its res olution 73/204 of 20 D ecember 2018,

Havi ng consi dered th e repor t of the Secreta ry-Gene ral,

Reaffirm ing the continu ing v alue o f est ablished huma nitarian rule s rela ting t o

arme d conflict s and the need to r espect an d ensure re spect for tho se rules in all

circu mstance s within the sco pe of th e releva nt intern ational instrum ents, pe nding th e

earli est pos sible ter minatio n of suc h confli cts,

Stressing t he need to co nsolida te the exist ing body of internat ional hum anitari an

law throu gh i ts u niversal acc eptance and the need for wide dis seminat ion a nd f ull

impl ementati on of such law at the national leve l, an d exp ressing conc ern a bout all

viol ations o f the Ge neva Co nventio ns of 19 49

Call ing upon M ember S tates to di ssemina te know ledge of inter nationa l

huma nitarian law as w idely as possible , and cal ling upo n all par ties to ar med conf lict

to ap ply int ernation al huma nitarian law,

Noti ng with satisfa ction the inc reasing nu mber of natio nal commis sions and

other bod ies involved in advi sing authoritie s at th e national level on the im plementation ,

diss eminatio n and d evelopm ent of in ternati onal hum anitaria n law,
