non- prolifer ation an d the p eaceful uses of nuclear energy,

regi me of the Treaty on the Non -Prolife ration o f Nuclea r Weapons, and reca lling th at

nucl ear disa rmament , non- prolifer ation an d peace ful use s of nuc lear en ergy ar e

mutu ally rei nforcing and ar e essent ial for strengthe ning the Treat y regime ,

Stres sing the esse ntial role of t he Tre aty on th e No n-Prol iferatio n of Nucl ear

Weapon s, 2018 bein g the fiftiet h anniver sary of its ope ning for sig nature, in t he

main tenance of int ernatio nal pea ce, sec urity a nd sta bility, a s well as its cen trality to

the rule s-based inte rnation al orde r, and r ecalling the ac hieveme nts and the

signi ficance of the Trea ty as the c ornersto ne of the i nternati onal nuc lear disa rmament

and non -prolif eration reg ime, which h as contribu ted to the achie vement of ma jor

redu ctions i n the nu clear ar senals o f nucle ar-weap on Stat es,

Stres sing also the importa nce o f the Rev iew Confere nce o f the Par ties to th e

Treat y on the Non -Prolife ration of Nuclear Weap ons to be he ld in 2020, o n the

occa sion of th e fif tieth anniver sary of the e ntry into force of the Tre aty, an d of its
