1. We, Head s o f S tate and Gov ernment an d r epresen tatives of St ates and

Gove rnments , a re meetin g at United N ations Hea dquarte rs in New York on

24 Sept ember 20 18, at the Nels on Mand ela Pea ce Summi t to re flect on global p eace,

in ho nour of the cen tenary o f the b irth of Nelson Mandela .

2. We sal ute his qualiti es of h umility, f orgivene ss and compass ion, his values and

his dedicat ion to the se rvice o f human ity, as a huma nitarian , in th e field s of conflict

resol ution, disarma ment, r ace rela tions, t he prom otion a nd pr otection of hum an

right s, recon ciliatio n, gende r equali ty, the rig hts of c hildren and peop le in vul nerable

situa tions, as well as the upliftme nt o f poo r an d und erdevel oped commun ities. We

ackn owledge his contri bution to t he str uggle for democra cy in ternat ionally and the

promo tion of a cultu re of pe ace thr oughout the wor ld.

3. We co mmit to red ouble our e fforts to bui ld a just, peacef ul, pro sperous ,

inclu sive and fair wor ld, and t o revive the value s for wh ich Nelso n Mande la stood by

placi ng human di gnity at the ce ntre of our act ions. We commit to d emonstr ating

mutu al respe ct, tole rance, u nderstan ding an d reconc iliation in our relation s.
