on Nutritio n (20 16–2025)

The General Assembly ,

Reca llin g its reso lution 70 /259 of 1 Apri l 2016, by whic h i t proclaim ed the

peri od 20 16–2025 the Unite d Nat ions Decade of Ac tion on Nu trition and endors ed

the Rom e Declarat ion on Nutrit ion and the Fram ework for Actio n a dopted at the

Seco nd Interna tional Con ference on Nu trition, jo intly organ ized by the Foo d a nd

Agri culture Organi zation of the Unite d Nati ons an d the World H ealth O rganiza tion,

in Ro me fro m 19 to 2 1 Nove mber 201 4,

Emph asiz ing the need to eradicat e hunge r and pr event al l forms o f malnut rition

worl dwide, part icularly u ndernou rishment , stunt ing, w asting, und erweight and

over weight in child ren under 5 yea rs of a ge and anaemia in wom en and childre n,

amon g o ther micro nutrient d eficien cies, as well as to re verse the risi ng trends in

over weight an d obesity a nd reduce th e burden o f diet-r elated non -commu nicable

dise ases in a ll age groups,

Reaf firm ing its resolu tion 70/1 of 2 5 Septemb er 2 015, entitled “Tra nsformin g

our worl d: t he 2 030 A genda for Susta inable Deve lopment ”, in which it adopte d a

comp rehensiv e, fa r-reachi ng and peopl e-centr ed set of universa l and transf ormativ e

Sust ainable D evelop ment Goa ls and tar gets, its commitm ent to wo rking tireles sly for

the f ull impl ementati on of th e A genda by 2030, i ts recog nition t hat eradi cating

pove rty i n al l its for ms an d di mension s, in cluding extr eme poverty, is the greates t

glob al cha llenge and an in dispens able r equirem ent fo r sus tainabl e deve lopmen t, i ts

commi tment to ach ieving sust ainable de velopment i n its three di mensions – economic ,

socia l and envir onmental – in a ba lanced and integrat ed mann er, and to buildin g upon

the a chievem ents of t he Mille nnium D evelopm ent Goal s and se eking to address their

unfin ished b usiness,
