racial discrimination, x enophobia and rela ted in tolera nce

and the compre hensive implementa tion o f and follow-up

to the Durban De claration and Programme of Action

The General Assembly ,

Reca llin g all its previ ous resolut ions on the compr ehensive fo llow-u p t o t he

World Confe rence against Raci sm, Ra cial Discrim ination, Xeno phobia and Related

Intol erance and the effec tive impleme ntation o f the Durb an Dec laration a nd

Prog ramme o f Actio n ad opted by the World Confe rence,

and in th is re gard

unde rlining the impe rative need for their fu ll and effective impleme ntation ,

Reca lling also the suffer ing of the vic tims of rac ism, racia l discrim ination,

xeno phobia a nd rela ted into lerance, and the need to honour their m emory,

Call ing upon States to honour the memo ry of vic tims of t he histor ical inju stices

of slaver y, the sla ve t rade, includ ing the transa tlantic sla ve tr ade, coloni alism and

apar theid,

Stres sing t hat the outco me of the World Con ference ag ainst Raci sm, Racial

Disc riminati on, Xeno phobia and Rel ated Int olerance has the same s tatus as the

outc omes of all th e major United Nations conf erences, summit s and special session s

in the h uman righ ts and soc ial field s, and that t he Durban Declara tion and Pr ogramme

of Acti on remai ns a sol id basis and the only in structiv e outco me of th e World

Conf erence, wh ich presc ribes comp rehensi ve measur es for com bating all t he scourge s

of ra cism an d adequa te reme dies for victims ,

Unde rlin ing t he need to pr omote tol erance and respect fo r diversi ty and the ne ed

to s eek co mmon gr ound a mong an d withi n civil izations in or der to address commo n

chall enges to h umanit y that thre aten shared values , uni versal human right s and the
