Reca llin g the Wo rld Sum mit for So cial Dev elopmen t, held i n Copenh agen fro m

6 to 12 Mar ch 1995 , and the twe nty-fo urth sp ecial s ession of the Genera l Assembl y,

entit led “ Wo rld Su mmit for So cial D evelopm ent an d bey ond: a chievin g soci al

deve lopment for all in a g lobaliz ing wo rld”, held in Ge neva f rom 2 6 June to 1 J uly

2000 ,

Reaf firm ing that the Copen hagen Declar ation on S ocial Develo pment and the

Prog ramme of Action of th e World Summit for So cial De velopme nt

an d the further

initi atives for soci al de velopme nt adopted by the Gen eral As sembly at its twent y-

fourt h speci al sessio n,

as w ell as a continu ed globa l dialo gue on s ocial de velopme nt

issu es, consti tute the b asic fram ework fo r the promo tion of so cial deve lopm ent for all

at th e nation al and internat ional le vels,

Welcomi ng the progr ess made toward s th e fu ll imp lement ation of the

Cope nhagen Decla ration and the P rogram me of Action throu gh co ncerted acti on at

the nation al, re gional and global levels, and expre ssing its deep concern that, more

than 2 0 years afte r the conve ning of the World S ummit for S ocial Deve lopment ,

prog ress has been sl ow and uneven, and maj or gaps remain,

Reaf firm ing its resolu tion 70/1 of 2 5 Septemb er 20 15, entitled “Tra nsformin g

our worl d: t he 2 030 A genda for Susta inable Deve lopment ”, in which it adopte d a

comp rehensiv e, fa r-reachi ng and peopl e-centr ed set of universa l and transf ormativ e

Sust ainable D evelop ment Goa ls and tar gets, its commi tment to working tireless ly for

the f ull impl ementati on of th e A genda by 2030, i ts recog nition t hat eradi cating
