71/136 . Model Law on Secured Transactions of the United

Nation s Comm ission on Internatio nal Trade L aw

The General Assembly ,

Reca lling its re solution 2 205 (XXI ) of 17 Dec ember 19 66, by whic h it

esta blished the Un ited Na tions C ommissi on on I nternati onal Tra de Law with a

mand ate to f urther t he progr essive harmoni zation a nd unif ication of the l aw of

inter nationa l trade and in tha t respe ct to bear i n mind the interest s of all peo ples, in

part icular thos e of dev eloping coun tries, in the ext ensive dev elopmen t of

inter nationa l trade,

Recalling also its resol utions 56/81 of 12 December 2001, 63/121 of 11 December

2008, 65/23 of 6 Decemb er 2010 and 68/108 of 16 Dece mber 2013, in whic h it

recommend ed that States co nsider or continue to consider beco ming parties to th e

United Nations Convention on the Assignment of Rec eivables in In ternational Trade

and giving favourable consid eration to th e U NCITRAL Legislative Guide on Secured

Transactions , th e Suppleme nt on Security R ights in Intellectual Property and t he

UNCITRAL Guide on the Imp lementation of a S ecurity Rights Re gistry, respe ctively,

Reca lling fu rther that, at its fo rty-sixth sessio n, in 2 013, th e Commi ssion

entr usted Work ing Gro up VI (S ecurity Interest s) with the pre paration of a mo del law

on secur ed tra nsactio ns bas ed on the reco mmendati ons o f the U NCITRAL

Legi slative Guide on Se cured Tra nsaction s and consis tent wi th all texts prepare d by

the Commiss ion on s ecured t ransacti ons,
