enha nce th e stra tegic p artner ship b etween the Unite d Nati ons an d regi onal a nd

subr egiona l organi zation s. We ther efore:

1. Welco me t he ongoing eff orts to streng then the coop eration bet ween the

Unit ed Nations and re gional and subr egiona l or ganizat ions, withi n t heir respec tive

mand ates, towards a mor e effect ive, e fficient and co herent partne rship;

2. Unde rscore t he impo rtant r ole th at regi onal an d subr egional

orga nizatio ns play, in a ccorda nce with t he Chart er of the U nited Na tions, i n the

area s of p eace a nd sec urity, d evelop ment an d hum an rig hts, an d reco gnize that th ese

orga nizatio ns ar e wel l posi tioned to underst and t he ch allenge s and dyna mics facing

thei r resp ective regi ons g iven their geogra phic, cultur al an d his torical prox imity, as

well as info rmation a bout spec ific l ocal and con flict situa tions with in th eir

mand ates, and con tribute to the preve ntion a nd reso lution of suc h confl icts;
