Relatora de libertad de expresión destaca avances en la materia, y señala desafíos pendientes relacionados con seguridad y tolerancia

La Relatora Especial para la Libertad de Expresión de la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, Catalina Botero, reconoció los avances que se han registrado en varios países en materia de libertad y acceso a la información, pero advirtió que aún quedan grandes retos en estos ámbitos, tales como la despenalización de la expresión disidente, la protección de periodistas, la superación de la censura indirecta, y el pluralismo y diversidad que son garantizados por las leyes antimonopolio.
Dirigiéndose a los representantes miembros del Consejo Permanente de la Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA), Botero hizo un análisis sobre el estado de la libertad de expresión en la región, destacando las experiencias positivas y los desafíos que aún están pendientes. “En la región se ha logrado un enorme avance en materia de prohibición de la censura; en el establecimiento de los límites entre el discurso protegido y el discurso no protegido; y una sensibilización para que las sanciones de abusos a la libertad de expresión sean razonables y no generen un efecto silenciador en la sociedad”, dijo.
Botero aludió a los esfuerzos realizados por países como Chile y México que, con el apoyo de la Relatoría, han logrado avances en el tema de acceso a la información. Igualmente reconoció las iniciativas de Uruguay y Argentina relacionadas con la normativa de radiodifusión, que busca una mayor diversidad y pluralismo en el ejercicio periodístico.
