Kazakhstan bans export of onions

Kazakhstan banned the export of onions, the Ministry of Agriculture reports.

"The Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade Policy and Participation in Economic Organizations decided to ban the export of onions for three months to prevent the mass export of onions from Kazakhstan and stabilize prices," the message says.

The department believes that a global increase in prices for onions was provoked, including in the market of Kazakhstan, due to natural disasters in Pakistan.

The price could rise due to severe frosts in the south and in Uzbekistan. The main onion producers are now actively importing the Kazakh product.
