Kazakh feminists hold rally in Almaty

A sanctioned rally organized by Kazakh feminist organizations was held in Almaty on February 5, Nur.kz reported.

Women's rights activists gathered in the Gandhi Park. An announcement was posted on the march's Instagram page, which said that a so-called rally for a rally would be held in the Gandhi Park in Almaty from 12 pm to 2 pm on February 6. Activists are trying to get permission to hold a feminist march on March 8.

The Kazakh feminist initiative group Feminita published a post on Instagram page at the end of January stating that the city authorities had denied them permission to hold a rally on March 8, and had given all legally available places to another organization.

"We do not want to compete with anyone, we demand our right to hold a march and a rally on March 8. We believe that there is enough space for this in Almaty," the group members said.
