Embajadora de trinidad y tobago, al frente del consejo permanente de la oea, subraya mayor enfoque sobre medidas antipobreza

La Embajadora Marina Valere, de Trinidad y Tobago, presidió hoy una sesión del Consejo Permanente de la Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA), por primera vez en su calidad de Presidenta del mismo, e hizo un llamado a profundizar en el enfoque de medidas dirigidas a erradicar la pobreza y atender las necesidades específicas de la mujer y la niñez en las Américas. La diplomática afirmó que la seguridad y “nuestras instituciones democráticas” también requieren de la atención debida.
Contribuir al combate de la pobreza significa “tomar decisiones para apoyar estrategias nacionales y multilaterales para la generación de empleo decente para nuestros ciudadanos. Hay que fomentar iniciativas para que las comunidades puedan tener acceso más eficaz a las remesas y a su utilización”, apuntó la diplomática caribeña, dirigiéndose a sus colegas de los Estados miembros de la OEA durante la sesión ordinaria del Consejo Permanente. Recalcó el “objetivo singular de nuestros esfuerzos como Estados miembros: mejorar el bienestar y la productividad de todos los pueblos de las Américas”.
La diplomática trinitaria abogó por intensificar los esfuerzos para capacitar a profesores, médicos, enfermeras y técnicos, cuyos servicios revisten importancia vital en las regiones menos accesibles con retos económicos más apremiantes. Según Valere, dichos retos tienes particular prominencia en los Estados más pequeños y más vulnerables, los cuales tienen economías difíciles de diversificar. Agregó que “en el corazón de nuestros más sinceros esfuerzos” existen iniciativas hemisféricas para promover la salud, la conciencia ambiental y el desarrollo sostenible, educación y capacitación, derechos humanos, el fortalecimiento de instituciones democráticas, capacidad empresarial, una sociedad del conocimiento, y...
