Criminal case against ex-President Akaev dismissed over expiry of statute of limitations

The criminal case against ex-President Askar Akaev was dismissed, General Prosecutor's press service chief Sirojiddin Kamolidinov told AKIpress on January 13.

'Akaev was accused of being accomplice to power abuse, negligence in concluding the general agreement with Cameco in 1992 and restructuring of Kumtor project in 2023,' Kamolidinov reminded.

The case was dismissed due to the expiration of the statute of limitations for criminal prosecution, he said.
