Inter-American Court of Human Rights suspends

public hearings of the 134th Regular Session of March 16-20, 2020

San Jose, Costa Rica, March 11, 2020.- Considering the Pand emic Declaration for t he spread of

Coronavirus made today by the World Health Organization and attending to the “National Sanitary

Guidelines for Surv eillance of Infecti on for Coronavirus” dictated by the Ministry of Public Health

of the Republic of C osta Rica, the Presidency of the Int er-American Court of Human Rights has

decided to suspend public hearings for the week of March 16 to 20, 2020, corresponding to the

134th Regular Period of Sessions.

Attending the indications of the Government of the Republic of Costa Rica, as well as

those of the World Health Organization, the Inter-American Court agreed to avoid the

international travel t hat the next publi c hearings scheduled for this period require.

In order to notify t his measure, The Sec retariat of the Int er-American Court is

communicating with each of the actors involved in the planned public hearings. The hearings will

be rescheduled and th e new agenda of sessi ons will be reported respectively throug h the official

channels.

The Inter-American Cou rt reaffirms its commitm ent to work for the prot ection of human rights i n

the Continent while joining international efforts to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
