6 measles cases registered in Bishkek

Six measles and 2 rubella cases were registered in Bishkek in 2023, Gulzada Dadanova, epidemiologist of the National Immunization Center, said.

5 cases were registered among children under 14 years. They either received only one dose of vaccine against measles or were not vaccinated at all, she said. One case was imported from Turkiye.

Measles is highly contagious viral infection with severe symptoms. "Measles can be contracted if a person was not infected or vaccinated before. One vaccine may protect a person from 3 diseases," the epidemiologist said.

The measles situation is stable in Kyrgyzstan on the whole.
