Abstract

This study aims at identifying the effect of a training program on the development of the

receptive and expressive language among a sample of hearing-impaired children with

cochlear implants. A purposely selected, sample of 30-children, between ages (5-7) from

both sexes who had cochlear implant surgery at Al Hussein Medical Center in Jordan,

was equally assigned to experimental and control groups for 3-month training program.

Results revealed improvement in both expressive and receptive language skills among

hearing-impaired children; they acquired more vocabulary and their reception and appre-

hension of words and sentences perceivably improved. In addition, their hearing ability

improved and the spoken language has become the channel of communication with oth-

ers and no differences were found attributed to gender. The author recommends training

workshops for parents and teachers on developing the language skills of hearing-impaired

children.
