Abstract.฀In฀March-June฀1978,฀Ignacio฀Ellacuria฀taught฀a฀monographic฀course฀on฀Ernst฀Bloch฀in฀

San฀Salvador’s฀UCA.฀From฀August฀to฀November฀1978,฀a฀multidisciplinary฀seminar฀under฀the฀title฀

“The฀Subject฀of฀History”฀was฀also฀held.฀The฀introduction฀and฀first฀part฀of฀that฀seminar฀is฀published฀

now฀for฀the฀first฀time.฀Being฀the฀answer฀to฀the฀question฀essential฀for฀the฀political฀or฀historical฀

praxis’orientation,฀its฀sense฀is฀tacked฀with฀in฀the฀introduction.฀The฀question฀opens฀up฀itself฀in฀two฀

directions:฀History’s฀structural฀character฀and฀History’s฀subjective฀character.฀In฀the฀first฀part,฀the฀

structural฀character฀of฀History฀is฀analysed:฀its฀general฀features,฀the฀relation฀between฀structure฀

and฀subjectivity฀(structural฀dimensions฀and฀actors);฀the฀problem฀of฀historical฀forces฀and฀histori-

cal฀determinism฀(with฀a฀special฀excursus฀devoted฀to฀economic฀forces),฀provisional฀conclusions฀

(on฀the฀historical฀process,฀the฀sub-structures฀of฀the฀process,฀the฀reality฀of฀the฀sub-systems฀and฀

the฀recognition฀of฀an฀strutural฀process฀along฀the฀conditioning฀factors฀of฀the฀economic฀sphere).฀

The฀second฀part฀(dealing฀with฀the฀structural฀subjectivity)฀and฀the฀third฀one฀(consacrated฀to฀the฀

historical฀subject฀and฀the฀subject฀of฀history)฀are฀left฀for฀another฀occasion.฀Ellacuria’s฀final฀tesis฀is฀

that฀“the฀entire฀mankind฀should฀constitute฀itself฀as฀the฀subject฀of฀its฀own฀history”.

Resumen.฀En฀marzo-junio฀de฀1978฀Ignacio฀Ellacuría฀imparte฀un฀curso฀monográfico฀sobre฀Er-

nst฀Bloch,฀en฀la฀UCA฀de฀San฀Salvador.฀El฀mismo฀año,฀en฀los฀meses฀de฀agosto฀a฀noviembre,฀tiene฀

lugar฀un฀seminario฀multidisciplinar:฀“El฀sujeto฀de฀la฀historia”.฀Se฀publica฀aquí฀la฀introducción฀y฀

la฀parte฀primera.฀En฀la฀introducción฀se฀aborda฀el฀sentido฀de฀la฀pregunta,฀puesto฀que฀la฀res-

puesta฀a฀la฀cuestión฀es฀decisiva฀para฀la฀orientación฀de฀la฀praxis฀histórica฀o฀política.฀La฀pregun-

ta฀se฀amplía฀en฀dos฀vertientes:฀el฀carácter฀estructural฀de฀la฀historia฀y฀el฀carácter฀subjetivo฀de฀

la฀historia.฀En฀la฀parte฀primera฀se฀aborda฀el฀carácter฀estructural฀de฀la฀historia:฀características฀

1.฀Sentido฀de฀la฀pregunta

>฀En฀qué฀forma฀y฀฀con฀qué฀medida฀lo฀que฀ocurre฀en฀la฀historia฀es฀o฀puede฀ser฀dirigido฀por฀

un฀auténtico฀sujeto.

·฀tres฀niveles฀de฀historia

-฀la฀totalidad฀del฀proceso฀histórico฀a฀lo฀largo฀del฀tiempo฀y฀espacio.

-฀un฀trozo฀importante฀del฀proceso฀histórico฀con฀especial฀acento฀en฀los฀cambios฀históricos,

-฀el฀nivel฀biográfico฀o฀estrictamente฀comunitario.

·฀niveles฀de฀subjetualidad

-฀el฀sujeto฀activo฀y฀el฀sujeto฀pasivo฀de฀la฀historia,

-฀el฀sujeto฀activo:฀el฀proceso฀histórico฀pende฀en฀medida฀apreciable฀del฀proyecto฀y฀la฀

opción฀de฀sujetos฀individuales฀o฀colectivos,

-฀la฀distribución฀entre฀autor,฀actor฀y฀agente,

-฀la฀idea฀de฀sujeto฀como฀opuesta฀a฀estructura.

>฀La฀pregunta฀por฀el฀sujeto฀de฀la฀historia฀(SH)฀es฀distinta฀de฀la฀pregunta฀por฀las฀fuerzas฀de฀

la฀historia฀y฀por฀las฀determinaciones฀históricas.

·฀a฀nivel฀de฀ la฀biografía฀ personal฀hay฀ fuerzas฀y฀ hay฀determinaciones฀ sin฀que฀ anulen฀el฀

proyecto฀y฀la฀opción,

-฀no฀discutimos฀hasta฀qué฀punto฀ es฀esto฀un฀puro฀fenómeno,฀pues฀no฀exigimos฀más฀

transfenómenos฀en฀la฀subjetividad฀histórica,

-฀es฀aceptable฀que฀el฀carácter฀de฀sujeto฀completa฀de฀forma฀distinta฀a฀lo฀histórico฀y฀a฀

lo฀biográfico.

·฀no฀hay฀en฀principio฀oposición฀lógica฀excluyente฀entre฀la฀aceptación฀de฀fuerzas฀y฀deter-

minaciones฀y฀la฀aceptación฀de฀un฀principio฀de฀subjetividad.

-฀aun฀en฀el฀plano฀de฀lo฀puramente฀material฀y฀de฀ lo฀biológico฀hay฀una฀cierta฀indeter-

minación฀en฀la฀que฀cabe฀una฀intromisión฀desde฀fuera,

generales,฀relación฀estructura-subjetividad฀(planos฀estructurales฀y฀actores);฀el฀problema฀de฀

las฀fuerzas฀históricas฀฀y฀del฀determinismo฀histórico฀(con฀un฀especial฀excurso฀sobre฀las฀fuerzas฀

económicas),฀conclusiones฀provisionales฀(sobre฀el฀proceso฀histórico,฀las฀sub-estructuras฀del฀

proceso,฀la฀realidad฀de฀los฀sub-sistemas฀y฀el฀reconocimiento฀de฀un฀proceso฀estructural,฀así฀

como฀de฀los฀condicionantes฀de฀la฀esfera฀económica).฀Quedan฀para฀otra฀ocasión฀la฀segunda฀

parte:฀la฀subjetividad฀estructural,฀y฀la฀tercera฀parte:฀sujeto฀histórico฀y฀sujeto฀de฀la฀historia.฀La฀

tesis฀con฀la฀que฀concluye฀Ellacuría฀es฀la฀siguiente:฀“Es฀la฀humanidad฀entera฀la฀que฀debe฀llegar฀

a฀constituirse฀en฀sujeto฀de฀su฀propia฀historia”.
