Resumen

El presente artículo estudia y analiza la sucesión a la Corona en las diferentes etapas

históricas de España. La gran mayoría de historiadores versados en las diferentes

líneas de investigación, se han aproximado a la hora de esclarecer la sucesión al

trono en muchas ocasiones, ofreciendo diversas interpretaciones para explicar su

evolución.

Esos cambios, producidos en los diversos reinos que han confluido en la actual

Monarquía, han respondido a las cambiantes circunstancias históricas de los reinos

Visigodo, Coronas de Castilla, Aragón, Navarra y la monarquía hispánica unificada

hasta llegar a nuestros días. Los cambios de dinastía o de régimen político desde la

monarquía electiva, pasando por la feudal, la absoluta o la liberal, junto con las

circunstancias familiares de los Soberanos, han construido este corpus legislativo

complejo, que merece un pormenorizado estudio.

Un claro ejemplo de las circunstancias cambiantes, debido a la evolución política

y social del Reino, es el actual y recurrente tema sobre el artículo de la Constitución

Española que deja a la mujer en segundo lugar en el orden de sucesión dinástica. En

estos 40 años de vigencia de la actual Constitución, ningún gobierno ha puesto em-

peño en hacer los cambios necesarios para solventarlo, a diferencia de otras casas

reales reinantes.

Abstract

This article is a brief study of the succession to the Crown in the different historical

stages of Spain. The great majority of historians versed in the different lines of in-

vestigation, have approached the subject to clarify the succession to The throne in

many works, offering diverse interpretations to explain their evolution. These chan-

ges, were produced in the various kingdoms prior to the unification of the crowns

that result the current Monarchy, and have responded to the changing historical

circumstances of the Visigothic kingdoms, the Crowns of Castile, Aragon, Navarre

and the unified Spanish monarchy until our days. The changes of dynasty or po litical

regime from the elective monarchy, through the feudal, the absolute or the liberal

ones, together with the familiar circumstances of the Sovereigns, have built this

complex legislative corpus, which deserves a detailed study.

A clear example of the changing circumstances, due to the political and social

evolution of the Kingdom, is the current and recurring theme on the article in the

current Spanish Constitution that leaves women in second place in the order of dy-

nastic succession. In these 40 years of the 1978’s Constitution, no government has

made efforts to make the necessary changes to solve it, unlike other reining royal

houses.
