Secretario general adjunto de la oea urge mayor apoyo para resolver el diferendo territorial entre belice y guatemala

El Secretario General Adjunto de la Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA), Embajador Albert Ramdin, hizo un llamado a los países miembros para que continúen apoyando los esfuerzos encaminados a resolver el diferendo territorial entre Belice y Guatemala.
Ramdin regresó hoy a la sede de la OEA tras una visita de tres días a Belice, donde se reunió con el Primer Ministro Said Musa y el Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores y Comercio Exterior, Eamon Courtenay, entre otros. El Secretario General Adjunto dijo que las autoridades de Belice habían expresado su preocupación por el ritmo del proceso que busca resolver el diferendo.
El 26 de septiembre se realizará la próxima reunión a nivel ministerial entre Belice y Guatemala, en la sede de la OEA en Washington. Al referirse a este próximo paso del proceso, Ramdin expresó su esperanza que la reunión “incluya una discusión productiva sobre los avances realizados hasta el momento y los futuros pasos que se puedan tomar para efectuar una solución duradera”.
En septiembre del año pasado, Belice y Guatemala firmaron un acuerdo marco de negociación y medidas de fomento de la confianza, con el fin de mantener relaciones bilaterales amistosas mientras se resuelva el diferendo de manera permanente. En febrero de este año, los países aceptaron una propuesta del Secretario General de la OEA, José Miguel Insulza, de comenzar un proceso de negociación sobre aspectos marítimos del diferendo.
