1. INTRODUCCIÓN
El discurso Pro Caelio –conocido en español como En defensa de
Marco Celio– contiene la defensa que Cicerón ejerció el 4 de abril del
año 56 a.C. en favor de Celio, hijo de un caballero romano y provenien-
te de familia adinerada, acusado de haber querido envenenar a Clodia,
viuda de un ex cónsul a quien Cicerón tenía por varón esclarecido y
abnegado por la patria 1. Según los cargos presentados contra Celio,
este había usado dinero de su amante Clodia para mandar a matar al
