Relatoría especial para la libertad de expresión deplora asesinatos de periodistas en mexico y solicita debida investigación

Washington, D.C., 21 de noviembre de 2006. La Relatoría Especial para la Libertad de Expresión de la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (CIDH) de la OEA deplora los asesinatos de dos periodistas perpetrados en México en las últimas semanas. La Relatoría Especial insta a las autoridades mexicanas a investigar estos hechos de manera rápida y eficaz para que se sancione debidamente a sus responsables y se determine si estos crímenes estuvieron relacionados con el ejercicio de la actividad periodística.
El 10 de noviembre fue encontrado el cuerpo de Misael Tamayo Hernández, director del periódico Despertar de la Costa, en un motel en la ciudad de Zihuatanejo, Estado de Guerrero, con las manos atadas en la espalda y heridas en el antebrazo y la mano. El periodista habría recibido amenazas de muerte tras publicar noticias sobre el narcotráfico, el crimen organizado y corrupción en el gobierno local.
El 16 de noviembre fue encontrado el cuerpo de José Manuel Nava Sánchez, ex director del periódico Excélsior, en su domicilio en Ciudad de México, con heridas de arma blanca. El periodista escribía una columna en el periódico El Sol de México y el 6 de noviembre había presentado su libro Excélsior, el asalto final, donde criticó presuntas irregularidades en la venta del periódico.
Previamente fueron asesinados este año en México los periodistas Jaime Arturo Olvera Bravo (el 9 de marzo en Michoacán), Ramiro Téllez Contreras (el 10 de marzo en Tamaulipas), Enrique Perea Quintanilla (el 9 de agosto en Chihuahua), y Bradley Ronald Hill (el 27 de octubre en Oaxaca).
