UN prepares El Salvador mission.

PositionMission to verify the Agreement on Human Rights

An advance group, charged by Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar with assessing conditions in El Salvador, returned to New York on 23 March after a 10-day visit to that war-torn Central American country. The group was to advise the Secretary-General on how a UN human rights verification mission could function there even before a cease-fire is in place.

The mission is to verify the Agreement on Human Rights signed in San Jose, Costa Rica, in July 1990 by the Government of El Salvador and the Frente Farabundo Marti para la Liberacion Nacional.
