Preparations under way for Amendment Conference for Partial Test-Ban Treaty

In a decision adopted by consensus, the Meeting invited the views of the States parties, particularly the nuclear-weapon States, regarding the verification of a comprehensive nuclear-test ban. the representatives of the United Kingdom and the United States said the adoption of the text was not a commitment on their part to do so. The representative of the Soviet Union said his Government would comply with the decision.

The Meeting also adopted a final report on organizational aspects of the Amendment Conference covering the structure and work of the meeting of the States parties, summary records, record of decisions, list of other documents and the estimated costs of the Meeting and the Amendment Conference.

The President of the Meeting, Edmond Jayasinghe of Sri Lanka, said the signing of agreements by the United States and the Soviet Union "augured well" for the work of the Conference.
