In our previous issue, we ashed how the wave of big data has been
a game changer in the past decade and what new avenues it can open
for the eld of economics. More important (if you are a policymaker),
the large pool of information available digitally can provide new tools
to guide and support policy decisions. e capability to produce new
indicators, tackle ocial data time lags, and support forecasting can
be vital for increasing the speed of inception and implementation in
policymaking. A wide array of projects at the IMF has recently aimed
to explore the potential in this area.
